Hawaii Marriage License

Obtaining a Hawaii Marriage License

Obtaining a wedding license in Hawaii is a “piece of cake”. In brief, all you need is $60 U.S. cash, and a photo ID. There is no blood work required and there is no waiting period. Also, witnesses are not required at weddings in Hawaii. How easy is that!!! Below is some additional information that may be helpful.

Eligibility to Apply for a Hawaii Marriage License

  • You do not need to be a state residence or citizen of the U.S.
  • There are no requirements for blood tests.
  • The minimum age for marriage in Hawaii is 18 years.
  • If either the bride or groom are 16 or 17 years old, they will need consent, in writing, from both parents (or legal guardians), or the family court. The Hawaii Marriage License Agency has consent forms available.
  • Brides and grooms 15 years of age require the written consent of both parents or legal guardian, and the written approval of a family court judge. The parents or legal guardian need not be residents of Hawaii. Consent forms may be obtained from a Hawaii wedding licensing agent.
  • Proof of age is a requirement. If either the bride or groom are under 18, a certified copy of the birth certificate is required. For brides or grooms 19 or older a valid driver’s license or valid ID will suffice.
  • Divorce and death records are not required unless the death or divorce date is less than 30 days prior to applying for a marriage license. Fax copies are not accepted.
  • Marriage between cousins is permitted, however the bride and groom cannot be more closely related than first cousins.
